Children's Film Festival at Belgaum on 4th and 5th December 2011


Ajanta Film Society Belgaum in association with the Karnataka Chalchitra Academy have organised a children film festival on December 4 & 5, 2011 at Sardars High school Belgaum.
December 4
Red Balloon (English) timing: 11.30 to 12.15 pm
Kinnara Bale (Kannada) Timing: 1.30 to 3.30pm
Bettada Huvu(Kannada) Timing: 4 to 5.30pm
December 5
Sinhada Mari Sainya (Kannada) Timing: 10.30 to 12.30pm
Children of Heaven (English) Timing: 2 to 3.30 pm
Kotreshi Kanasu(Kannada) Timing: 4 to 5.30pm

Kannada Film Festival -January 2011- Inaugural Function

The Kannada Film Festival (Films directed by the renowned Director Padmashri Girish Kasaravalli) got off to a colourful start at Globe Cinema, Belgaum at 11.00 am on Saturday, 29th January 2011.

Jointly organised by the Lingayat Mahila Samaj, Belgaum and Ajanta Film Society, Belgaum, the audience will have the opportunity to view sensitive portrayals of women by Girish Kasaravalli through three films, Dweepa, Gulabi Talkies and Kanasemba Kudariyaneri.

Smt. Ruksana Feroz Sait inaugurated the Festival by lighting of the lamp, The Chief Guests on the occasion were Mrs.Mangal Suresh Angadi, Mrs.Asha Prabhakar Kore, Mrs. Sheela Umesh Katti, Mrs. Sabiha Hirani Mrs.Dr.Rahila S.Shaikh, Mrs. Vandana Rao
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Feroz Sait, MLA was all praise for the sterling work done by the progressive Lingayat Community for the overall development of Belgaum and wished them more achievements in the years ahed.

Three day Kannada Film Festival at Globe Cinema

Ajanta Film Society, Lingayat Mahila Samaj Belgaum, and Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy are organising a three day Festival of Kannada films from 29th to 31st January 2011 at the renovated Globe Theatre

All the films are directed by Padmashri Girish Kasarvalli, an Internationally renowned director and winner of International, National and State Awards.



The festival will be inaugurated at 11.00 am on Saturday, 29th January 2011  by Mrs. Ruksana Feroze Sait. Chief Guests:: Mrs.Mangal Suresh Angadi, Mrs.Asha Prabhakar Kore, Mrs. Ekroop Kaur (Dy. Commissioner, Belgaum),Mrs.Sabiha Hirani (Globe Theatre Owner), Mrs.Dr.Rahila S.Shaikh,(Member,Cantonment Board,Belgaum)

Smt. Asha D. Patil, President and Smt. Drakshayani Parappanavar, Secretary, Lingayat Mahila Samaj along with Smt. Shailaja Bhinge, Smt. Rajashree Hanji and Smt. Shakuntala Mulimani have been actively involved in    organising the event.

Shri. Mohan Karekar, President, and Shri. Subhash Chougule, Secretary, Ajanta Film Society are the co-hosts for the event. Shri Chogule is also the District Co-ordinator for the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy.

Brief details of the movies being screened:

Dweepa 


Dweepa, which won the  Golden Lotus for Best Film in the National Film Awards, 2002, is a movie at multiple levels. On one level, it is about the problems caused by displacement. On another, it is about the way human beings react to a crisis.

Gulabi Talkies


Gulabi Talkies is a beautiful celluloid essay on the trials and tribulations of a poor Muslim woman, Gulabi, a midwife, whose life and the lives of other women and children in a small fishing village in Karnataka change when she is gifted a television set.Gulabi Talkies won the top prize under Indian Competition section at the 10th Osians-Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema. The lead actress Umashree, bagged the Best Actress award for her outstanding performance in the film.

Kanasemba Kudarayaneri

"The film applies a back and forth narrative to tell the story of gravedigger Irya and his belief in Siddhas, nomads whose arrival is considered auspicious. It is believed that if the death of a person coincides with the arrival of a Siddha, the soul is sure to go to heaven."

Rafi ki Yadein - December 24th at Huns Talkies Belgaum

To commemorate the Birth anniversary of Mohammed Rafi, Ajanta Film Society hosted Rafi Ki Yadein, a musical evening featuring several timeless classics sung by the late legendary singer.
